Sean, Pete and organising committee take a bow.
From a participant point of view the whole event was a gruelling pleasure to take part in.
The organisiation from beginning to end was superb. The marshalls done an excellent job and despite there being three loops on the run there was no confusion over "did I do two or three circuits" (Believe me I have great experience of loosing count on those sort of triathlons)
Whoever came up with the idea of the finish being on top of that hill is a twisted so and so. But all good.
Hopefully the event proved financially viable for the club. I have no doubt that the buzz generated around the Tri community will be immense and triathletes will be clammering for a place next season.
It was great to hear the calls of encouragement from all the marshalls and home crowd.
Thanks on behalf of everyone that took part for giving up your time and putting Newry Tri Club truly on the map.
As for criticism. I can honestly not think of one thing. Mind you I can't really do anything at the moment apart from breathe.
Maybe tip the water by 4 or 5 degrees to coincide with everything else.
Any spelling mistakes have been induced by dehydration.

Well done to all who took part and all those that made it possible.

Many thanks to all those who supported this event- this encapsulates a vast number of people from the competitors to the marshals, to the supporters and the members of our club who spent so much time preparing and giving up their own time and indeed resources to make this event happen. I have spoken with quite a few of the competitors who remarked on the super marshaling and support, thank you.
I would like to thank our sponsors and also the committee of Fiddler's Green for allowing us to join in the festival ( and Rostrevor GAA for the use of the premises and Jacqueline Morgan for the refreshments):
Bellini's
The Whistledown
Canal Court
Gerard Nolan- physio
Mourne Fitness
Shane McKeown accountants
M&M Services Ltd.
Blue Seventy
Rosemary Connolly Solicitors
The Shelbourne Bakery
There was a huge input from club members and their families- with transition (pete q, paddy duffy, stephen morgan, paul mccann, tony bagnall, niall fitzpatrick, david o'prey, sean f, pearse mckeever, ciaran hughes, milo, padriag mallon, liam hutchinson, mick dunford, eamon campbell, ken behan, to name a few). Many thanks to Catherine Murphy and Patricia McParland for their invaluable assistance with registration (and to Eithne Murphy and Maria Hughes on Sunday). Can I also thank Connor Murphy for his help on the day at the finish line. Thanks also to Spacer (neil mcdoanld) for all his help with PR and sponsorship and to Michelle McKeown and our mayor Mick Murphy from the council for all their help.
There are a few members of the committee that need a special mention- Paul McCann, is there anything that this man can not do! Thanks for all your assistance with transition, making bike rakes, prizes (and the list goes on) and indeed Lorraine for the lovely banana and chocolate bread. Thanks to Louise Watters and our own Delia I mean Deirdre Dunford for all the delicious buns in the club after the event.
Padraig and Milo had a fantastic swim route for us which had great boat and kayak cover, well done lads.
The road marking was first class and kept us all going and indeed laughing. The bike route was tough but enjoyable, well done Ciaran Hughes, first class, well organised.
Sean the run route was a great success and allowed spectators to see the agony!! The water stations were well manned and the route was well marked. The fabulous support and cheers kept us all going ( On a personal note I must mention Elaine Hughes, Caitriona Courtney and Ashley Martin, thanks girls).
David O'Prey has invested a huge amount of hours into the organisation of this event, with Pete Quinn (both behind the scenes with the police, parades commission, council, triathlon ireland and dare I mention the forestry and on the day and for the set up) and without his solid contribution the event would not have taken place, thanks David.
Last but my no means least, the final word has to go to Pete Quinn, our race director. What an event!! Well done Pete, huge success. This man spent all of last week preparing for this event and chasing up people and things, in fact he has probably spent the last 6 months chasing people and getting the event organised. Dedicated to the last, campting out to ensure the safe keeping of the transition area. What more can be said really. Pete, first class event.
I could keep going on and on (and generally do), but I'll sign off here and await the Hell of the Mournes 2011 Part Deux.
That was simply superb from start to finish, and i don't just mean the race. I mean all of you who made this possible. From a competitors point of view it was one of the best i've been to. From idea to execution i really take my hat off to you all. You are a credit to the club.
Ross Collins. Magnificent. Its good to see you on top of the podium. A worthy winner. However, you need to work on your victory tumble!
Look at the 'About Us' section of this website written by Tony 'T' Bagnall. 'The Newry Triathlon Club was once the best club in the nation'. With the people we have driving this club there's no reason why we cant replace 'was once' with 'IS'. Onwards and upwards.
To be honest, I know a lot of people put in a lot of work, but to see the effort firsthand put in by Sean and Peter, astounding!!! My wife, who is far from a tri fan was even impressed and commented on how well run it was particularly the run route, in work this morning all the campsite residents stopped me and wanted me to pass on congrats and well wishes to all the club. Some didn't even know what it was but loved it and will travel to castlewellan to spectate. Compare this to that shambles in Wexford last year. A big well done to all and if it was Ciaran that organised the cycle, you're a bollix! But well done
Great day from start to finish, so well organised and marshals were brilliant. Nearly died in the water didnt like the jellyfish at all but some how survived. As for my hip well its sore but gonna be good for Germany. As for head following 4th event not good!!!! So proud to be involved in such a great club, well done everyone!
WOW! That was some race. Congrats to everyone who took part yesterday. The rest of us sit in awe of you all!
Congrats to all the organisers also. There has been nothing but positive feedback, praise and promises of people returning next year with all their mates in tow. It's all thanks to your hard work and dedication. You left nothing to chance.
Fair play to you all!!!

Many people have good ideas/visions but don't have the courage, commitment or skills necessary to see the task through to completion. Fortunately Newry Triathlon club's members possess all of the above qualities and produced a triathlon than can undoubtedly grow to be one of the classics on the calendar. Respect to Pete Quinn for having the cojones to orchestrate the event.
After reading Anne-Marie's post I must plead my ignorance to the amount of work that some people have been doing in the club. Absolutely amazing effort by all those involved and I must now go out of my way to volunteer my services to the club more often.
Many thanks!
Ross

An absolutely fanastic event and a tribute to each of the organisers and the Newry Tri Club. I can honestly not think of anything that could be improved or modified (what can ya really do about jelly fish!), it was just a pleasure to be involved from registration right through to celebratory drinks in Rostrevor that night. Organisers, marshalls, police, spectators everyone was fantastic and there was a real buzz amongst the competitors who knew they were taking part in something special and were encouraging each other. The toughest and most enjoyable triathlon ive done or seen and ive no doubt there will be huge demand for places next year. Well done and thanks.
