Life before Triathlons, well in June 2013 feeling unfit I decide to join a local running group as walk/run, eventually I built up to a 10k distance. I ran various 10ks and one half Marathon, Dublin Rock and Roll! I met and made a lot of good friends around newry and enjoyed the fact I was helping charities and keeping fit!
When and why did you start triathlon?
I received one of the most talked about “BLUE ENVELOPES” and in it a chance to “Step Out Of The Ordinary” My challenges where Crooked Lake Sprint Triathlon and Top Of The Mourne Olympic Triathlon!! Omg!!! not a clue did I have, so I had a look on the Internet to see what a triathlon was, which discipline came first, and how long it was. Then I watched a video of Crooked Lake Triathlon………Well I almost hyperventilated, and I also had TOM Olympic triathlon to do Panic!!!! how will I ever do this considering the last bike I rode was a chopper and I hadn’t swam in the sea since I was a child! The thought of the lake scared me!!
I remember asking Ciara Philips directions to Crooked lake but by the summer my car could nearly drive it’s self lol
So through the magic of Facebook I got chatting with other people that got similar challenges and as it turned out some of most amazing people I’ll ever have the pleasure to call friends. And with that formed “The Rubber Duckies” with Maggy Trainor as chief Duckie keeping us all in check. And so it began in November 2013 a whole new bunch of duckies nervously headed to train in the pool with NTC! The craic was always mighty and adrenaline high in the showers after!
Bike training on Sunday’s with Eamonn Campbell was unforgiving at times but he knew what was ahead of me!! The first time a did a brick session bike-run I though I was going to pass out and what’s with the rubber legs?
Swims and cycles at the lake are always very social and great chance to get to know and hear each other’s stories!!!
So In my first year as well as numerous swims, Aquathons, Duathlons I went on to complete
